KB20201203/01: Sage X3 Tip & Trick – Mandatory dimension on payment posting of a foreign currency invoice from a legal currency bank at a different exchange rate from the invoice date
When the user is paying a foreign currency invoice from a legal currency bank at a different exchange rate from the invoice date, the system will give you an error as it will not know where to get the dimensions for the Foreign exchange P&L account.
Dimensions will have to be assigned to the bank and the standard default dimensions for the payment detail will have to be adjusted.
In the following example we are paying a foreign currency invoice (BWP) with a legal currency (USD) bank. The system will create the payment as well as the exchange rate variance journal.
1)Supplier invoice in Foreign currency
2)Payment created in legal currency
3)Error when posting the payment
4)To prevent this error, the default dimensions will have to be pulling from the Bank.
a)Navigate to Common data> BP Accounting tables> Bank accounts
b)Select the relevant bank and assign default dimensions.
5)Next Navigate to the Setup> Financials> Default dimensions
a)Select “PAYMENTD”
b)Select “Bank” as the source for the dimensions and save
6)Now when you post the payment the Exchange currency P&L account will pull its dimension from the Bank without errors.
